Release/Histórico
About Pic-Nic It is not an easy task to patronize Pic-Nic´s music. However, one may easily recognize the paradox, or, in other words, a certain kind of bi-polarity that lies in their songs: tenderness x energy, slow motion x full throttle, sweetness x power, violins x storming guitars; all these feelings are combined from the very first chord of the very first song over all their work. It is all about fresh and new Brazilian music with no imposed paths to follow neither false ideals to be planned. This is Pic-Nic. Formed in 2001, the band comprises the rough touch of four boys ( Paulinho- guitars; Miguel- guitars; Chokito- bass guitar; Davi- drums) with the sweetness of their female singer, Guidi, who also plays the guitar and signs all the lyrics. Their first demo CD was released in 2003, and it is unashamedly provincial and nostalgic. Eight tracks, featuring low-fi and basic overdubs. Nevertheless, everything is there. "Talvez" (Maybe) opens up with clean guitars, and invites the listener to go on a trip - or a pic-nic - on a bright sunny day, while "Ano Novo" ( New Year´s Day) and "Aqui" (Here) reminds: Pic-Nic is a rock band, do not be fooled! "Mexicana" (Mexican Song) is a great chance to hear the band´s original drummer Victor screaming like a freak and developing a forful drum roll that still nowadays evokes comparisons with one the band influences, the Pixies. As soon as they released "Pic Nic", the group started playing in ALL underground venues in their hometown, Rio de Janeiro , and at the same time began a massive network through music websites. Until the release of their second demo, "Pic Nic" had sold over 1500 copies all over the main cities in Brasil. "Feito em Casa" (Homemade), the second demo, was released in July 2004, and it was well received by the band's increasing audience and specialized press. As the title suggests, it was wholly home recorded, apart from the drums, which were recorded in an professional studio. However, this album shows a brilliant post-production work, with complex textures and cutting, sharp guitars; the rhythm section really kicks; and there are some innovative and strange noises here and there. "... Bossa Nova and Sonic Youth shaking hands in punk rock club!", someone once wrote. With two video clips on MTV, and over 2000 copies sold, "Feito em Casa" allowed the band to spread their message. Now, they regularly tour throughout the country, playing sold out shows and picking up new fans in every city they visit. The band is currently producing their official debut album, which will feature songs taken from the two previous demos and a full pack of brand new songs. Above all expectations, Pic-Nic keeps in mind their original and only goal: To have fun with their music, as they have always been.
